It requires great discipline to play well. The game is all about driving along what is essentially a straight line, switching at points, raising and lowering the throttle to meet speed limits and stopping efficiently to offload cargo or passengers. Now, calm down, stop screaming at me through you monitor and I'll explain. I chalk it up for being an endurance test in its own special way, comparable to - dare I say it - Dark Souls. I'm in no way putting it down when I make that comparison.
TRAIN SIMULATOR 2014 STEAM CODE
My first hands-on with Train Simulator 2014's final code reminded me of Desert Bus. Desert Bus is an endurance test, and Penn Jillette has since stated that it was a response to fears over violent video games at the time, but many view it as one of the greatest gaming trolls the industry has known.
A tow truck then pulls you back to the start in real-time to attempt the journey again from scratch. To make matter worse the bus continually veers to the right and edging off the road even by an inch nets you a game over. People regularly play it in one sitting for charity, which is impressive seeing as it can't be paused. It tasks players to drive along a straight road for eight hours solid. It has garnered a cult following since it was brought to the internet in a playable state. Fully endorsed by the infamous magician duo, the title was a compilation of small experiences that included the notorious Desert Bus (seen above), a driving simulator that threw players into a real-time drive from Tuscon, Arizona to Las Vegas. Without this level of publicity, though, there's no way to know how long or what result these flags would have had.Train Simulator 2014 is more than dubstep videos and parodies. After news of this situation hit the front page of r/Games, a moderator has since removed the off-topic flags from the affected reviews. While a moderator might simply remove the flag if they find no cause, the moderation process and its timeline is not transparent. Instead, flagged reviews are from veteran players with hundreds of hours in the game warning others about patchy AI or expensive DLC.Īccording to Steam's announcement of the user review system, developers can't delete reviews of their products, but flagged reviews will remain partially hidden until a Steam moderator deletes the review. In the content of many of these reviews, there is no mention of the dispute over forum moderation. Once flagged, a review is still visible but appears collapsed, and must be expanded to be read.
In a post describing the issues, a redditor (who has since deleted their account) pointed to Train Simulator's review tab, where the user reviews marked “most helpful” have been flagged as off-topic by the developer.
